Contribute to Sculpture Project by Donating Local Artifact

Two weeks ago, I announced Bernard Williams as the artist selected to completed the public artwork project as part of the 50×50 Year of Public Art initiative.

Williams is requesting some assistance from you – the public – in completing this task. In an effort to incorporate as much neighborhood history into his piece as possible, he is putting out a call for local, weather resistant artifacts which might be used in the sculpture. Williams is looking for outdoor objects, such as signs, architectural fragments such as railings, ornamental and non-ornamental fencing or gates, and other related things.

Anyone with a potential artifact or artifact idea should start by sending in a photo to my office at ward45@cityofchicago.org with the subject line YOPA artifact. This could be a photo of something you already have or something that is still standing outdoors and can be removed or relocated as part of the sculpture.
