Central and Montrose, Central and Berteau Intersections Completely Closed Starting July 20

Central and Montrose, Central and Berteau Intersections Completely Closed Starting July 20

The Chicago Department of Water Management is replacing sewers under Central from Berteau to Wilson starting July 20. The sewers were originally installed in 1909 and need replacing.

Unfortunately, the work will require the complete closure, in all directions, of the intersections of Central and Montrose, as well as Central and Berteau. Please avoid the area.

Montrose and Central will be closed for about one month, while Berteau and Central will be closed for about two months. The Montrose detour (including the westbound Montrose closure at Lavergne and Montrose) is Cicero to Irving Park to Austin back to Montrose. The Central detour is Irving Park to Austin to Lawrence to back Central.

I understand that this is a major inconvenience to the thousands of people who traverse these intersections daily. However, the upgrade should significantly reduce the potential of major sewer problems and should help prevent flooding. Please be patient as the city works to improve our infrastructure.
